Actually, there's already two Argos corners opened in Sainsbury's shops since last week, on May 27: North Cheam in Surrey, and Nantwich in Cheshire. These are small Argos stores (1,000 square feet), supplying the retailer's most favourite items immediately and 20,000 products available for collection at the stores a few hours later (an order placed before 1pm can be ready for 4pm the same day). These shops in the shop are designed to allow a digital shopping experience, with tablets to visit the website and complete your order. But staff is still around if you need any help or advice.
Both Argos and Sainsbury's are quite enthusiastic with this deal. Argos is happy “to bring the convenience of the Argos offer to more customers” while Sainsbury's wants to “ensure we continue to offer our customers a wide range of products at great value and to make their shopping more convenient”. It's also a clever way to make profitable the unused space there is in a quarter of Sainsbury's branches. Eight Argos larger outlets (up to 5,000 square feet) are due to open this summer in West Hove, Crayford, Calcot, Bognor Regis, Durham, Rustington, Drumchapel and Keighley.
