Founded in North Carolina in 1937 the store has gone from strength to strength and has become almost as popular and recognised throughout Europe as it is in the U.S. By 2015 the chain had opened branch number 1,000 in Kansas City and has proceeded to expand ever since and has managed to survive both the depression period of the 1930’s and the economic crisis of more recent times and had a phase of great growth during the 1990s opening it’s first store outside of the U.S. in 2001.
The new Krispy Kreme will offer a choice of sixteen different varieties of doughnut ranging from classic doughnuts to the ultra sweet and very tempting chocolate dreamcake, and the new shop will be based in The Grafton where it will join other big brand names such as Costa, Amelie and Bella Italie. The UK manager for the new store is Neil Williamson who says that the new store follows the success of the first one, and it seems Cambridge residents, students and tourists just can’t get enough of the sweet treats.
The brand new Krispy Kreme will open in The Grafton on December 4 just in time for Christmas, and the first, second and third people in the queue that day will be offered some special goodies for free. Other promotional activities mean that even if you don’t make it to the head of the line on the opening day you could still bag yourself some prizes on the Krispy Kreme buzz wire.
If you happen to live, study or be visiting Cambridge prior to the grand opening, hundreds of doughnuts will be handed out for free to shoppers around the city centre so keep a look out if you are in the area during the big build up. The management at The Grafton are delighted to welcome this new addition to the mix of shops and reckon it will be extremely popular with customers. Krispy Kreme will find a great setting for this new shop as The Grafton recently had a huge refurbishment of £28.5 million to update the look and improve customer experience, so Krispy Kreme is guaranteed to find crowds flocking to it’s doors come the opening day!
