After several strangulation and suffocation incidents, the Swedish giant, Ikea is recalling its different bed canopy models. Intended to be draped around children's beds or cots, the net can become entangled around infants' necks if pulled into the cots. In a communiqué, the brand states that "no permanent injury has been reported", but Ikea recalls the product as a precautionary measure. While the majority of product recalls are on a national level, this concerns more than 2.8 million articles sold since 1996, worldwide.
The models concerned by this measure are referenced under the following names: "LEGENDARISK", "MINNEN BARNSLIG BOLL", "MINNEN BRODYR", "HIMMEL", "FABLER" and "TISSLA". Customers owning one of these models are requested to stop using it and return it to the store as quickly as possible.
