With more than 1,500 locations in the UK, Costa Coffee is the leading coffehouse chain here, and the second largest in the world (Starbucks being first, obviously), operating over 3,000 locations worldwide. To provide an even better experience to its customers, Costa took the inspiration in the company's history, in 1971, when founders Costa brothers used to offer freshly baked pastries with their coffee. But Costa's concept store offers more than just pastries. Costa Fresco, as it's called, has an extended menu of salads, quiches, ciabattas, cakes, cookies and fresh fruit juices.
Costa's Brand and Innovation Director Carol Welch explains the company's project: "We really want to bring something different to the food market in London. The store will be similar to the traditional Costa stores, but will have much more of a food focus. All pastries, cakes and bread will be baked on site. Costa Fresco is a fusion of London’s handcrafted bakeries brought to life by our heritage, Italian passion and gusto for vibrant ingredients and genuinely good food".
Depending on its success in London, the Costa Fresco concept could possibly be extended to other locations across the country. For now, you can give it a try at 190 Tottenham Court Road, from 6:30 am-20:00pm Monday to Friday, 7:30am-19:30pm Saturday and 8:00am-19:30pm Sunday.
