Indeed, developers Lateral Property Group are keen to emphasise that the Yorkshire shopping centre has a lot more to offer than just retail opportunities. Lateral co-founder Philip Lunn says that ‘the scale of Axiom means that we have the space and flexibility to draw from the best retail and leisure innovations around the world and curate them in one place,’ with the stadium providing a community hub and the sizeable country park giving shoppers a pleasant opportunity to take a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the retail environment. The development is also expected to create around 2,000 new jobs in the area.
Seated just off the M62 with direct access available from the motorway, Axiom will be within a 40-minute drive of Leeds, Hull, Doncaster and York - and around 2.2 million Yorkshire residents.
Lunn aims for the complex to transform the mall industry, stating that he hopes for Axiom to represent ‘the UK’s next generation retail, leisure and hospitality experience’. Indeed, it is to be hoped that this transformative spirit will be mirrored in the benefits of the shopping centre to the local economy and Castleford's appeal to visitors and tourists.
With a markedly different offering to the nearby Junction 32 outlet centre, consumers can look forward to visiting Axiom’s shops and leisure facilities when the complex opens in 2021.
