It all began when Alexa Chung was spotted wearing a 70s-inspired suede skirt from Marks & Spencer, last year. It led to a huge demand for the skirt, and probably to the idea of a collaboration with the British style icon as well. "Marks & Spencer’s history is vast and quality design has always been paramount; therefore, using our expertise and classic designs and Alexa’s unique eye and approach to style, our collaboration was born. A new womenswear collection, curated by Alexa, with heritage firmly at its heart" explains Steve Rowe, Marks & Spencer's head of general merchandise.
Alexa Chung's collection is voluntarily based on the company's apparel archive, which she revisited with new colours, fabrics and her sense of modernity and style: "I have always had an affection for Marks & Spencer. I am thrilled to be part of this special and unique project. There was something very touching about looking back through the British fashion and social history for which M&S is synonymous."
The collection, accurately named Archive by Alexa Chung, will feature 31 womenswear items, including the pale pink blouse pictured above. For further details, we will have to wait until the collection is unveiled, and that's only in April. It will then be available online and in selected stores. One fact to be noted is that Alexa Chung will also be the director of the Archive collection launch campaign.
