HMV is a popular media company in the UK specialising in entertainment retail. It was founded in London in 1921, but now its headquarters are based in Maidenhead and Berkshire. The company takes their name from “His Master’s Voice”, a painting by Francis Barraud whose dog staring into a gramophone is still used as their logo today. The store accounts for nearly half of the entertainment media sales in the UK and is comprised of over 140 active retail sites.
HMV stores can be found all over the UK and offer many products such as music, film, TV, and video games in their latest formats as well as all associated electronic appliances. In recent years HMV has started to sell music digitally from its website and offer free promotional music downloads to support its in store events. HMV has long been known for bringing many of the artists whose products it represents into the store for signings and even live performances.
After 20 years of existence, the clothing chain Bank Fashion is definitely closing its doors, despite all the efforts made. The retailer is the first “after Christmas” victim of this year.
