Since its establishment in 1971 in Seattle, Starbucks Corporation has grown to become the biggest coffee house worldwide. It was founded by three University of San Francisco colleagues named Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker, and Zev Siegl as a coffee bean roaster and retail store. The trio opened their first location outside the US in 1996 in Tokyo, Japan. They entered the UK market later in 1998. Since then the company has continued to expand rapidly in locations both in and outside the US.
Starbucks is internationally recognized for its high quality coffee products. However, all its locations also specialize in different types of hot and cold beverages including whole bean coffee, full-leaf teas, instant coffee, snacks, and an assortment of pastries.
